An 7 day, 75- hour Extended Teacher Education Experience in Guatemala


This Extended Teacher Education course is geared toward those who have already completed a 200 hour training. Enjoy the volcanic mountains of Lake Atitlán at Villa Sumaya while practicing yoga and meditation daily. We will focus on growing our teaching tool kits and strengthening our foundation. Devote one week to continued education and gain new, valuable skills in leadership, community, and creative development

Venue - Villa Sumaya

Accommodations

Villa Sumaya has 23 comfortable rooms, bungalows, and suites with private bathrooms, outdoor spaces, stunning decor, comfortable beds and fantastic views of the lake. Our training group will be staying in the Lotus House! This complex features six spacious rooms (two on each floor) and Tara Temple on the top floor. Each room has a private balcony with views of the lake or garden.

Meals

Villa Sumaya’s restaurant, Cafe Sumaya Sol, offers a splendid view of the lake and a blend of local and international vegetarian cuisine. Homemade buffets are abundant and freshly prepared daily. Each meal is balanced to meet your nutritional needs. Breakfast buffets include a main dish, granola, yogurt, fruit and daily specials. Lunch buffets include a hearty vegetarian main course, organic greens, homemade bread and a local fruit platter. Dinner buffets include soup, vegetarian entrée, seasonal side dishes, organic greens and a scrumptious dessert. Savor fresh breads and house-made tortillas.

Studio

Tara Temple (650 square feet) is a worldclass group facility with palm roofs, simple lines and a unique Asian motif. Each space features panoramic lake views, hardwood floors, built-in altars, sound systems, attached bathrooms and a walkin storage area with plenty of props including yoga mats, straps, bolsters, blankets and eye pillows. Our group spaces are dynamically inspiring: beyond the breathtaking view of the lake and majestic volcanoes, the cumulative energy of heart-centered yogic practice resonates in our sacred sanctuary.


Education and Curriculum

The Devotional School of Yoga offers this 75 hour teacher education course with carefully crafted curriculum. This course will focus on teacher development and is tailored to YOUR individual needs and desire to grow as a yoga teacher and practitioner. In addition to daily asana practice, meditation, and yoga philosophy (Sutras), we will focus on teaching technique, workshop content creation, and business development.

  • Completion of this training includes 15 hours of non-contact study that we offer in the form of an Extended Education Project.

  • The Devotional School of Yoga is a Yoga Alliance continuing education provider (YACEP). This program is accredited by Yoga Alliance for 75 hours of Continuing Education units for Registered Yoga Teachers.

Details:

You must coordinate your flight into Aurora International Airport (GUA) located in Guatemala City. From there, it is about a 3-hour drive to Panajachel and a 15-minute boat ride to our dock. Villa Sumaya will help arrange transportation by boat over the Lake to our retreat center.

Participants will have one day-time off as training intermission to relax, restore, or engage in fun activities, such as kayaking, Santa Cruz Village Tours, hiking and swimming, and spa treatments. Villa Sumaya is located on Lake Atitlán on the north shore of Santa Cruz la laguna.
